The industry's most comprehensive list of current and recent rounds for onshore and offshore licences
Open Australia opened its delayed 2022 Offshore Petroleum Acreage Release on 24 August via a webinar. Resources minister Madeleine King announced the ten areas available for bidding, located across four basins offshore the Northern Territory, Western Australia, the Ashmore & Cartier Islands, and Victoria. These include the Bonaparte basin, the Browse basin, the Northern Carnarvon basin and the Gippsland basin, with approximately 46,758km² available for exploration. “At the same time as we strive to reduce emissions, it must be emphasised that continued exploration for oil and gas in Commonwealth waters is central to alleviating future domestic gas shortfalls,” says King.
