Letter from Canada: LNG export industry in disarray
Canada at one stage looked set to be a major LNG exporter, but all except four liquefaction projects have fallen by the wayside
The leaders of Germany and Japan travelled to Canada in recent months to seek additional LNG supplies, but Prime Minister Justin Trudeau paid them little more than lip service. His government is continuing to prioritise climate change, not the energy security of the country’s democratic allies, as the world again breaks into primarily democratic and authoritarian power blocs. Despite massive gas resource in the west of the country, the climate-related policies of the Trudeau government have left the Canadian LNG export industry in disarray, with its main lobby group nearing collapse and few additional projects likely to move forward.
