Greece and Bulgaria complete gas interconnector
The milestone bolsters energy security in southeastern Europe
Greece and Bulgaria have completed construction of the ICGB gas interconnector between the two countries. The project’s “last stage before commercial operation” comprises only “administrative procedures”, the developer says. The ICGB project company expects the administrative process to “be significantly reduced for the pipeline to become operational as soon as possible”, citing “institutional support and political will”. The completion was marked with a ceremony attended by Bulgarian prime minister Kiril Petkov and Greek prime minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis as well as representatives from the European Commission and European Investment Bank and Azerbaijani energy minister Parviz Shahbazov.
