Leaders emerge in US race to FID
Projects face tough global competition for funding, but some lead the pack
The field of US liquefaction project proposals awaiting FID has thinned somewhat since the start of 2021. Of the projects that remain, not all will be built, and some are increasingly pulling ahead of others. In January, Houston-based NextDecade said it was scrapping plans for Galveston Bay LNG in Texas, having completed an evaluation of the site and determined it was not suitable for the development of an LNG facility. This was followed in March by news that the consortium behind Annova LNG was discontinuing its project at the Port of Brownsville, also in Texas.
