EQT remains bullish on Appalachian gas
The US producer is calling for a rapid buildout of pipeline and export infrastructure
Growth in Appalachian gas production has been “truly astounding” over the past decade-and-a-half and there is potential for massive additional growth, according to Toby Rice, president and CEO of Pittsburgh-based EQT, the largest gas producer in the basin. Appalachia, containing the Marcellus and Utica shale formations in the US northeast, has seen gas production skyrocket from a modest 1bn ft³/d (28.32mn m³/d) in January 2007 to a record high of 36bn ft³/d in December 2021, with EQT producing roughly a sixth of this total.
