Algeria targets 10mn m³/d gas boost before year-end
A new Sonatrach discovery could be in initial production from November
Algerian NOC Sonatrach has made what it terms a potentially “significant hydrocarbons” find within the operating perimeter of Hassi R'Mel, the country’s largest gas field. And it believes it could see first production from the discovery within five months. Preliminary assessment of the LD2 well puts gas condensate in a 100-340bn m³ range, making it “one of the largest re-evaluations of reserves in the last 20 years”, according to Sonatrach. A development work programme is now underway to confirm the volume estimates and to achieve fast-track production of c.10mn m³/d from November 2022. Interestingly, the discovery is in a Lias carbonate reservoir. According to analysis from consultancy S&am
