National protest movement bruises company targets, but exploration prospects look promising
Months of social unrest and protests in Colombia have forced Calgary-based independent Gran Tierra Energy to cut full-year production guidance. More than 597,000bl in crude output was curtailed in Colombia through May and June after violent demonstrations resulted in temporary shut-ins at many of the company’s oil fields and wells. Output has mostly returned to pre-protest levels since the political situation calmed, but Gran Tierra does not expect to make up for the losses.
