Australia aims to slash decommissioning bill
A government-funded company has launched an initiative intended to save more than $14bn in decommissioning costs over the next few decades
National Energy Resources Australia (Nera), a not-for-profit started in 2016, launched an initiative in March to cut Australia’s decommissioning costs. The Centre of Decommissioning Australia (Coda)—which is based in Perth—aims to bring together operators, service providers and research organisations. Consultancy Advisian projected in a 2020 report that the cost of Australia’s necessary offshore decommissioning would run to $40.5bn, but Nera says Coda will reduce this figure by at least 35pc.
