Eni to fast-track Egyptian gas field discovery
Italian major Eni believes it has found a lean gas field off Egypt with 30 trillion cf of gas in place
It will now appraise the field with the aim of accelerating a fast track development, making the best use of the existing infrastructure. It is the sole owner of the license and is the operator. Zohr is the largest gas discovery ever made in Egypt and in the Mediterranean Sea and could become one of the world's largest gas finds. It will be a major contribution to Egypt's natural gas supply for decades, Eni said 30 August. The discovery well Zohr 1X NFW stands in 1,450m of water in the Shorouk Block, which Eni acquired in January 2014 following a competitive bid round. Zohr 1X NFW was drilled to a total depth of about 4,131m and hit 630m of hydrocarbons in a carbonate sequence of Miocene age
