The UK’s upper house of parliament has called on the government to speed up shale gas development by simplifying its regulatory process and doing more to ease public concerns about hydraulic fracturing (fracking). A new report by the House of Lords economic affairs committee, released on 8 May, said the future of the UK shale gas industry “hangs in the balance” and the government must do more to push exploratory drilling forward - or miss out on potential benefits to the economy, national energy security and the environment.
