Capex is concentrated in gas processing and LNG in the US, while in Canada the reverse is true
Within the Americas region, the US ranks third—behind Asia and the Middle East—in terms of its number of active hydrocarbon processing projects. The GEI database is tracking nearly 190 active projects in the US, representing more than $310b in total capital investments. Although nearly half of the active projects in the US are in the refining sector, gas processing/LNG represents 68% of capex ($210b). Most of these investments are focused on LNG export capacity builds, with other investments geared towards gas processing plants to treat/separate produced gas from US shale plays.
