BP-Eni joint venture Azule Energy has reported success at what is Angola’s first exploration well specifically targeting natural gas, discovering an estimated 1tcf (28bcm) of gas and 100m bls of condensate in in-place resources. While commerciality still needs to be fully confirmed, Azule has hailed the find as a “landmark moment” for gas exploration in the southwest African country—better known for its substantial oil production. Likely any gas recovered will help backfill the underutilised Angola LNG plant, although it could also be earmarked as feedstock for fertiliser production.
