Vietnam poised to join LNG importers club
At least one, and potentially two, regasification terminals are due to come online next year
State-owned Petrovietnam Gas (PV Gas) expects to start importing LNG in the third quarter of 2022. The utility has completed around 90pc of its Thi Vai regasification terminal, which will have an initial capacity of 1mn t/yr and eventually be expanded to 3mn t/yr. Associated pipeline works are also on track to be completed in time for the third quarter next year. With a significant number of projects underway, Vietnamese LNG imports could “see exponential growth from less than 1bn m³/yr to over 4bn m³/yr over the next decade”, says consultancy Fitch Solutions.
