Japanese firms back carbon-neutral LNG
The buyers' group will promote use of the fuel to meet Japan’s decarbonisation goals
Fifteen Japanese companies have formed a buyers’ alliance to promote the use of carbon-neutral LNG, a move that may bolster the country’s emission reduction goals but at the same time potentially slow efforts to increase gas market liquidity. Tokyo Gas—which procures and supplies LNG—established the Carbon Neutral LNG Buyers Alliance with a group of other gas-purchasing companies, many of which are large conglomerates active in various sectors. The other 14 are Asahi Group Holdings, Isuzu Motors, Olympus Corporation, Sakai Chemical Industry, Duskin, Tamagawa Academy & University, Toshiba Corporation, Toho Titanium, New Otani, Marunouchi Heat Supply, Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank, Mitsubishi
