Shell enters US retail power market with green offering
European major targets Texas with plan that includes free off-peak EV charging and solar net-metering
Shell has entered the US retail power market with an offer of 100pc renewable power to households in Texas. It is also offering electric vehicle drivers free charging during off-peak hours and a fixed electricity rate. The European oil major says it is making available renewable electricity plans to customers in what it describes as “competitive areas” of the Energy Reliability Council of Texas (Ercot) grid, which represents 90pc of the Texas load. Ercot has more than 26mn customers. Shell’s clean electricity is backed by renewable energy certificates. Texas has vast quantities of solar and wind power.
