The UAE has announced an initiative to reach net-zero emissions by 2050. In a statement released by the Emirates News Agency, Awaidah Murshid al-Marar, chairman of the Department of Energy, highlighted that the UAE has installed over 3.1GW of solar over the past decade and is developing the Barakah nuclear power plant—which will supply 25pc of the country’s energy demand. Marar expects nuclear to power 47pc and solar 7pc of the UAE’s electricity by 2025, thereby halving CO₂ emissions from the domestic energy sector.
