Canada latest to announce future halt to ICE vehicle sales
Phase-outs began at subnational levels and have grown to reach national commitments in various regions
Canada announced this month a plan to bring forward a national phase-out of internal combustion engine (ICE) car sales by five years from 2040 to 2035. The move sees Canada join countries such as Denmark and the UK as well as also regions such as California and its own province of Quebec— now all aiming for the more aggressive 2035 target.
