Amman rolls out some old favourites as it hopes to finally gain upstream traction
Jordan’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) has kicked off efforts to enlist companies to explore for and develop oil and gas, inviting bids for nine blocks covering large swathes of the country. In mid-April, energy and mineral resources minister Hala Zawati said that the Al Azraq, Sirhan, Sirhan Development phase, Jafr, West Safawi, Dead Sea, North Highlands, Petra and Rum acreages would all be opened up for exploration, with the ministry publishing promotional materials to entice bids through either a bid round or direct negotiation.
