UK OGA approves major gas field
The Oil & Gas Authority has approved the £5.6bn ($8.57bn) development of the Culzean gas and condensate field
The newly-created UK offshore regulator, Oil & Gas Authority, has approved the £5.6bn ($8.57bn) development of the Culzean gas and condensate field, operator Maersk Oil said 31 August. The high-pressure, high-temperature (HPHT) field in the Central North Sea is expected to produce enough gas to meet 5% of total UK demand at peak production in 2020/21. The Culzean field aligns with the UK's commitment to increased gas-fired electricity generation, Maersk said. Discovered in 2008 by Maersk Oil and its co-venturers, JX Nippon and UK major BP, the gas condensate field has resources estimated at between 250m and 300m barrels of oil equivalent (boe).
