More gas for Norway’s Aasta Hansteen

The remote Norwegian sea discovery has been made by Statoil

Statoil has made a third gas discovery close to its Aasta Hansteen development in the remote northern Norwegian Sea. Reserves likely to be produced by Aasta Hansteen facilities have increased by almost a third since the development decision was taken for the field, lifting project returns for Statoil and partners Wintershall, OMV and ConocoPhillips. Statoil’s latest well found gas in the Gymir structure, about 20 km west of Aasta Hansteen in the deep-water Vøring basin. The firm said the well, 6706/11-2, found a gas column of 70 metres gross with good reservoir properties. Two previous step-out discoveries — Snefrid Nord and Roald Rigg, both made this year — lie between Gymir and Aasta Hanst
