Angola: discovery for Total, exit for Shell
TOTAL MADE an ultra-deep-water discovery in Block 32 in April, testing 6,800 b/d from its Canela-1 well. The find was the second in the block and the fifth so far in the country's ultra-deep areas—the others being BP's three discoveries in neighbouring Block 31. Canela-1 was drilled by the Pride Angola semi-submersible in 1,540 metres of water, in the eastern part of the block. 'Only one reservoir' was tested, Total said. The discovery is about 15 km southeast of the firm's Gindungo-1 find, made May 2003. Both finds are within 25 km of discoveries in the western part of Total's neighbouring Block 17.
