About to join the exporters
AFRICA will have a new oil exporter in October or November, when the first tanker-load of crude from Chad leaves a new export terminal at Kribi, Cameroon. ExxonMobil started to fill the 1,070-km pipeline linking landlocked Chad to the Atlantic coast across Cameroon in late July. The first consignment was being offered by Petronas, a 35% participant in the venture; ExxonMobil, the operator, holds 40% and ChevronTexaco has 25%. The oil will flow from Miandoum, the first of three fields being developed in the Doba basin of southern Chad.
