The World Petroleum Council has announced it will operate under the new name of WPC Energy from Tuesday 11 July 2023.
The move reflects an expansion of the organisation’s focus to help address the global transition to a low-carbon energy system, achieved through a diverse and sustainable mix of energy sources.
The organisation will be represented by a new logo and the new tagline: The World Forum for Energy Transformation.
The organisation is conducting an ongoing strategic review to facilitate dialogue and foster links across all parts of the energy landscape, according to Pedro Miras, President of WPC Energy.
“We advocate that all energies and technologies must be embraced to face the challenge to energise the planet in a responsible way. As our business strategy shifts, so must our brand strategy—and as such this represents the most significant change to our identity in our 90 years of history,” he said.
The rebrand project was undertaken over the course of three months in 2023 in a co-created approach led by Interbrand, the world’s leading brand consultancy. The panel also included the President, the Secretariat and a special focus group representing a cross section of the WPC’s National Committees and encompassing an inclusive mix of age and genders.
“We have a science backed, customer-inspired methodology for change and we are delighted to have joined WPC Energy on this journey,” said Gonzalo Brujo, Global CEO of Interbrand.
WPC Energy was founded in 1933 and is a non-advocacy, non-political organisation with charitable status in the UK and accreditation as a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) from the United Nations.
WPC Energy conducts the triennial World Petroleum Congress, covering all aspects of the energy industry including management of its social, economic and environmental impact. The 24th World Petroleum Congress taking place in Calgary from 17-21 September this year will not be changing its name.
