Eni’s North African gas agreements difficult to quantify
The Italian IOC heralds more supply from Algeria and Egypt. But exactly how much remains open to question
Senior executives at Italy’s Eni have had a busy week leading up to the Easter holiday. CEO Claudio Descalzi visited Algiers to sign an agreement with Algerian NOC Sonatrach, while Guido Brusco, the firm’s COO for natural resources, was in Cairo to seal a framework agreement with Egyptian state-owned gas firm Egas. Eni hailed both as securing additional gas supply. But working out the volumes of additional molecules agreed is not easy.
