Project sees growing domestic role for Mozambican gas
Mozambique has signed a concession agreement with GL Africa Energy—a subsidiary of the UAE-based Janus Continental Group—to finance, build and operate a 250MW, LNG-fuelled power station. The $400mn project is in the northern Nacala district and is due for completion by 2023. The first $90mn phase will bring 50MW of capacity online within 16 months, and the remaining 200MW will follow within 24 months. The domestically sourced LNG will come from Rovuma, further north along the Mozambican coast. Rovuma is home to three separate LNG developments.
