Bangladesh hails 80bn ft³ gas find
New discovery should make a contribution to the South Asian nation’s energy security
Bangladesh’s state minister for power, energy and mineral resources Nasrul Hamid took the opportunity of the country’s national energy security day to confirm that state-owned Bapex has made a substantial gas discovery at Zakiganj in the Sylhet division bordering India in the far northwest. The minister hails the Zakiganj find as Bangladesh’s 27th gas discovery and estimates recoverable reserves at c.48bn ft³, based on a 60pc recovery rate of 80bn ft³ of gas initially at place in the discovery. The field should be able to produce 10mn ft³/d (0.3mn m³/d) for 12-13 years of production life.
