Harnessing the energy of Saudi Arabia’s abundant natural resources, NGHC’s project will pave the way for the large-scale adoption of green hydrogen, while driving Saudi Vision 2030’s sustainable development goals. Paul Hickin, editor-in-chief at Hydrogen Economist spoke to David Edmondson, CEO of NGHC along with Carina Radford, a partner in White & Case’s energy, infrastructure and project finance group and Alec Johnson, a partner in White & Case’s project development and finance group about how easily the success can be replicated, what are the opportunities for green hydrogen across the Middle East and what’s next for the wider hydrogen economy.

David R. Edmondson CEO NEOM Green Hydrogen Company (NGHC) David R. Edmondson is the Chief Executive Officer of NEOM Green Hydrogen Company (NGHC), the world’s largest producer of green hydrogen at scale. With a track record of over 35 years in growing businesses and teams around the world including several executive roles in Europe, Asia and the Middle East, Dave’s robust leadership profile puts him in a unique position to champion the transition to a carbon-free future with green hydrogen. Dave’s vision for NGHC is to create a ground-breaking Company deploying leading edge technology and channelling the motivation and experience of its people to be a world-class operation at the forefront of the energy transition. The safety and well-being of his people and the environment is a key driver for Dave in his role as CEO. He wishes to create a culture of collaboration and the enabling environment to bring out the best of the world’s most brilliant minds and will be drawing on his people’s expertise and advice to make the Company’s extraordinary mandate a global reality. Prior to assuming his role at NGHC, Dave worked for Air Products since 1987, where he held a variety of roles in engineering, project management, business development and business management. In 2015 he became Vice President and Executive Project Director accountable for constructing the world’s largest air separation facility of its kind in Jazan. In 2018 he then assumed the role of Vice President, Business Transformation - Middle East responsible for driving the development of Air Products joint ventures across the region. Dave graduated with a BEng Civil Engineering from the University of Liverpool, and an MBA from Kingston University. He has a Certified Diploma in Accounting and Finance and is a member of the Institution of Civil Engineers. He is the husband of Kerris, and father of Sophie and Lauren. Outside work, Dave enjoys various sports, travelling and outdoor adventures. |
Carina Radford Partner White & Case Carina is a partner in White & Case’s Energy, Infrastructure and Project Finance group in London. Her practice is focused on energy, where she covers the full spectrum of the industry from conventional generation and renewables through to hydrogen, battery storage, energy infrastructure and upstream/downstream oil and gas. Carina frequently leads teams on truly global and innovative energy transactions. Her sought-after industry expertise is further reinforced by her versatile skillset across the full breadth of financing and investment structures, including “traditional” project finance, structured holdco or mezzanine financings, acquisition financings and structured equity investments. She has a wide-ranging client base, advising sponsors, developers, commercial banks, development finance institutions, export credit agencies, and investors across the energy and infrastructure sectors. Carina is a newly appointed member of the White & Case Executive Committee and a member of the Firm’s Energy Industry Group core team. Alex Johnson Partner White & Case Alec Johnson is a partner in White & Case’s Energy, Infrastructure and Project Finance group. Alec advises state-owned companies, sponsors, lenders and procurers on complex, multijurisdictional projects across a variety of sectors.
