Government developing new strategy on CCS and other carbon management tools as energy sector emissions continued to rise last year
The German government has come under renewed pressure to reboot its decarbonisation strategy as official data released this week shows energy sector emissions rose by 4.4pc in 2022, the second consecutive annual increase. Overall emissions last year were down by 1.9pc, according data from the German Environment Agency (UBA). Energy sector emissions rose on the back of increased coal and lignite burn in the power sector in response to the loss of Russian gas imports because of the war in Ukraine, the UBA says.
