Demand for gas is set to grow from sources beyond grid generation, such as projects to directly serve the burgeoning power requirements of datacentres
Demand for natural gas is set to rise rapidly across a range of applications due to its relatively low emissions, versatility and suitability for growing off-grid applications, a panel of experts agreed during the Emea leg of the Petroleum Economist LNG to Power Forum series on Wednesday. Natural gas demand is expected to grow more than demand for any other energy source, with the fuel rising to 26pc of the global power generation mix by 2040, says Brooke Harris, global gas demand development manager at ExxonMobil.
