NextDecade shelves CCS plan for Texas LNG project
Addition of CCS was a factor in court’s decision to overturn FERC’s authorisation for NextDecade’s Rio Grande LNG project
NextDecade has paused plans to deploy CCS at its Rio Grande LNG project in South Texas following a ruling by the US Court of Appeals. The court for the DC Circuit overturned the FERC’s authorisation for NextDecade to develop Rio Grande on the grounds the agency should have issued a supplemental environmental impact statement to reflect the addition of CCS to the project. NextDecade remains committed to advancing and lowering the cost of using CCS, but the existing plan is “not sufficiently developed to allow FERC review to continue at this time”, said Matt Schatzman, chairman and CEO of the Houston-based company. 5mt/yr – CCS capacity The decision is a blow to NextDecade’s ambitions
