Energean forms new unit for Mediterranean CCS push
EnEarth subsidiary aims to develop low-carbon hub around Prinos storage site in Aegean Sea off northern Greece
London-based independent gas producer Energean has created a new subsidiary, called EnEarth, to focus on the development of CCS projects in the eastern Mediterranean. EnEarth’s immediate focus will be the development of the Prinos carbon storage project in the Aegean Sea, off northern Greece. The project envisages the conversion of the Prinos oil and gas field, which started production in 1981, into a storage site with a first-phase capacity of 1mt/yr of CO₂, subsequently rising to 3mt/yr. The Prinos site has been identified as the only suitable site in Greece to store carbon in the near future, according to EnEarth.
