Danish Greensand project set to advance
North Sea storage facility verified as safe to proceed after successful pilot phase
Denmark’s first CO₂ storage project is expected to enter commercial operation in late 2025 or early 2026 after successfully completing a pilot phase that began over a year ago. Project Greensand, sited at the depleted Nini West oilfield in the North Sea, has been verified as safe by risk management firm DNV, paving the way for it to become the EU’s first operating CO₂ storage facility. UK-based chemicals group INEOS, which is leading the project together with London-listed independent oil and gas company Harbour Energy, has applied to the Danish government for approval to advance it.
