US selects DAC projects for $1.2b funding
Climeworks and Occidental subsidiary 1PointFive among developers set for talks with US Department of Energy over first tranche of funding for large-scale projects
The US Department of Energy (DOE) is set to start negotiations with two commercial-scale direct air capture (DAC) and storage projects over the potential award of up to $1.2b in the first allocation of funds under its Regional Hubs programme. The two main projects selected for potential funding are Cypress—under development in southwest Louisiana by non-profit science and technology organisation Battelle, Swiss carbon technology company Climeworks and US-based Heirloom Carbon Technologies—and the South Texas DAC Hub at Kleberg County—under development by Occidental subsidiary 1PointFive, together with Canada’s Carbon Engineering and engineering firm Worley. “DOE is laying the foundatio
