US DoE tests DAC technologies
Two field tests of solid amine sorbent-based DAC systems are currently underway in an effort to increase efficiency and lower costs
The US Department of Energy’s (DoE) National Energy Test Lab (NETL) is funding and managing direct air capture (DAC) technology field tests in California and Alabama in an effort to decrease costs and increase efficiency. NETL is managing the projects through the Carbon Dioxide Removal Program, which has a budget of $70mn for this year. Electrictore is leading a 12-month field test in California of a 30kg/d integrated DAC system combining technologies from Climeworks and Svante to chemically bind CO₂ from air to a solid amine sorbent material. The Southern States Energy Board and Aircapture are field testing a similar solid amine sorbent-based DAC system at the National Carbon Capture Center
