Netherlands’ flagship CCS project targets 2026 start up after legal challenge derails original construction timetable
The developers of the Netherlands’ flagship Porthos CCS facility are conducting a review of the project’s costs following a two-year delay in construction because of a legal challenge on environmental grounds. The cost of the project, which is a joint venture between Dutch gas company Energie Beheer Nederland, Dutch gas transmission system operator Gasunie and the Port of Rotterdam Authority, has previously been projected at €500m ($544m). But construction has been delayed due to a challenge launched by environmental group Mobilisation for the Environment in November 2021.
