Australian mining company and major Chinese steelmaker agree to develop projects to demonstrate several technologies
Australian mining and metals company BHP has signed an agreement with Chinese steelmaker HBIS to develop pilot-scale CCUS facilities at steel plants in Hebei province. Under the agreement, BHP and HBIS—one of the world’s largest steelmakers, will trial a range of technologies including vacuum pressure swing adsorption for CO₂ capture, and processes to utilise CO₂ through slag mineralisation and biological conversion to protein.
