Companies jointly fund preliminary engineering study of first megaton-scale DAC facility outside US
US energy company Occidental’s subsidiary 1PointFive and Emirati state energy company Adnoc have launched a jointly funded preliminary engineering study for a 1mt/yr direct air capture (DAC) facility in the UAE. The study will assess the feasibility of building the first megaton-scale DAC facility outside the US, using the same CO₂ extraction technology to be deployed at 1PointFive’s Stratos DAC project, which is under construction in Ector County, Texas. Stratos is expected to have a capacity of up to 500,000t/yr. If the UAE project is approved, CO₂ extracted at the DAC facility is expected to be connected to ADNOC’s CO₂ infrastructure in Abu Dhabi for injection and permanent storage into
