Two governments in bilateral talks on potential cross-border projects on carbon capture and storage and CO₂ removal
Norway and Switzerland have entered into bilateral talks aimed at developing cross-border cooperation on carbon capture and storage (CCS) and carbon dioxide removal (CDR). “Switzerland and Norway have established a strong cooperation on CDR- and CCS-related topics,” says Norwegian minister of petroleum and energy Terje Aasland. “Our administrations have regular meetings and are currently discussing a bilateral agreement, which is required to export/import CO₂ across borders.” The talks come as Norway aims to position itself as a major provider of CCS capacity to European industry. 80bn t – Potential CO₂ storage capacity on NCS The government is providing c.NOK17bn (c.$1.7bn) in fund
