Thinktank Niti Aayog says nation needs to capture and store 750mn t/yr of CO₂ to hit 2070 target
India will need to capture and store 750mn t/yr of CO₂ to reach its goal of being net zero by 2070, according to a report from thinktank Niti Aayog. India has committed to reducing CO₂ emissions by 50pc by the year 2050 and reaching net zero by 2070. The report predicts that at least 30pc of the emissions reductions required to meet these targets should be achieved via carbon capture, utilisation and storage projects. “India will be dependent on fossil energy sources like coal for a long time to support the industry and meet the requirements for affordable and reliable baseload power,” says the report, titled A Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS) Policy Framework and its Deploymen
