Updated Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) to the Paris Agreement on climate change still fall well short of a pathway that would limit global warming to 2°C this century, according to the latest report from the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Emissions reduction contributions to the Paris Agreement are voluntary, but countries are encouraged to update their NDCs periodically to reflect increased climate ambition in the hope that reductions will eventually become large enough to achieve the required overall cuts.
