Equinor steps up emission reduction goals
Norwegian energy group targets faster cuts in group-wide scope one and two emissions
Norwegian energy firm Equinor says it has accelerated its transition to net zero with a pledge to cut its group-wide net scope one and two emissions by 50pc by 2030 compared with 2015 levels. The new target compares with a previous pledge of a 40pc reduction by 2030, announced in early 2020. “Today we launch a step-up of our climate ambitions, focusing on reducing emissions under our own control,” Anders Opedal, president and CEO of Equinor said during the company’s 2021 results presentation. “We aim for 90pc of this to be delivered as absolute reductions.” BP this week also pledged to cut its scope one and two emissions by 50pc by 2030, accelerating from a previous target of 30-35pc. 0.7GW
