Equinor and Wintershall launch major CCS project
Open access pipeline will link north German CO₂ collection hub with offshore storage sites on Norwegian continental shelf
Norwegian state-owned energy company Equinor and German oil and gas firm Wintershall Dea have unveiled joint plans to develop a 900km pipeline to pump CO₂ from a collection hub in northern Germany to offshore storage sites on the Norwegian continental shelf (NCS). The open access pipeline is expected to have a capacity of 20-40mn t/yr of CO₂ by 2037—equivalent to around 20pc of all German industrial emissions in 2021.
