UK takes aim at fossil fuel transport
The country is launching a series of initiatives aimed at codifying and accelerating its move to net-zero mobility
The UK’s department of transport issued on Wednesday a slew of policy goals, consultations, white papers and commitments as part of its transport decarbonisation plan, or what it terms a ‘greenprint’. All carbon-emitting modes of transport get some attention, with potential impact on the country’s motor fuels, jet and bunkering demand. In road transport, it plans, subject to consultation, to phase out the sale of new diesel and petrol heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) by 2040. This combines with its existing target of a 2035 phase-out date for sales of new internal combustion engine (ICE) cars and vans.
