UK includes aviation and shipping in emissions targets
The country’s recently published Net Zero Strategy aims to reduce transport emissions by 22-33pc by 2030 and 46-59pc by 2035 compared with 2019 levels
The UK’s transport emissions, including aviation and shipping, must fall to 23-40mn t CO₂e by 2050 to meet net-zero targets for that year, according to the country’s Net Zero Strategy published this week. In the near-term, the government is targeting a 22-33pc fall by 2030 and a 46-59pc fall by 2035 from 2019 levels. The brunt of this cut will come from domestic transport, with a particular focus on electrification. Domestic transport emissions are modelled to fall by 34-45pc by 2030 and 65-76pc by 2035.
