Companies at the forefront of decarbonising shipping will benefit from membership of groups determining the future of the industry
Shipping companies that take a leading role in the decarbonisation of the industry are highly likely to outperform those that follow despite the high initial costs, a panel of leaders from across the shipping industry agreed on a PE Live webcast last week. Whether a company decides to take a leadership role depends on whether it believes that decarbonisation is a priority or not, says Tarek Helmi, partner at consultancy Deloitte Netherlands. “If you believe this is a global imperative, then you need to do something about it… We believe that if you are a leader in this space, you would benefit from it.” Leaders can benefit in multiple ways, according to Helmi.
