Government and industry agree to target 18GW of operating capacity by 2035 as new Mediterranean floating project tender goes live
The French government and the country’s renewables industry have agreed an “offshore wind pact” that calls for the commissioning of 18GW of capacity by 2035 and €40bn ($44bn) of investment in the sector over the next 15 years. The pact, signed by the government and the country’s two largest renewable energy industry associations, calls for the tendering of at least 2GW/yr of offshore wind capacity from 2025 and the allocation of 20GW of development rights by 2030. The deal reiterates a target of 40GW of capacity by 2050, which was set last month by President Emmanuel Macron.
