Trafigura joins US cobalt processing project
Commodities trader agrees with Evelution Energy to develop plant in Arizona to supply battery-grade cobalt to electric vehicle manufacturers
Commodities trading company Trafigura and battery materials processing firm Evelution Energy are working on a project to develop a solar-powered facility in Arizona that they say could meet 40pc of demand for battery-grade cobalt used in US electric vehicle (EV) production in 2027. Under a memorandum of understanding signed by the two companies, Evelution will start construction of the plant in 2023, with Trafigura involved in the sourcing of raw materials as well as the sales of cobalt sulphate and nickel sulphate produced by Evelution to the automotive sector.
