York completes sub-terminal switch
The North Sea field extends its lifespan through a flip to alternative processing facilities believed to be a UK industry first
Spirit Energy’s York field in the UK North Sea has been given another three years of life following a successful extension project that involved the highly unusual step of changing the sub-terminal at which its gas is processed. York output will now continue until 2023-24, having previously only been planned to produce until 2020. The field, which is 100pc owned by Spirit, a joint venture between UK utility Centrica and Germany’s Stadtwerke Muenchen, previously flowed into the Centrica Rough sub-terminal at the Easington gas terminal on England’s east coast.
